My Mom is an RN. She had many different nursing experiences as I was growing up. She did lots of "private duty" nursing...friends would call her to take care of sick family members, sometimes she would be in their room with them at the hospital for extra care. There was no home health care as we have today. Mom volunteered at the blood bank every year, she worked some at a local nursing home and was the Director of Family Planning in Southeast Kansas. She wore a white uniform and nurse's cap. I remember being proud of her, and people that she had taken care of, really appreciated her.
My Mom thinks that she is working in the Aurora Nursing Center now. I wonder why she thinks that... maybe because she used to work in a nursing home or maybe she just can't picture herself actually living in a nursing home. Who knows? We heard that she had been firing some of the staff, so they had a retirement party for her. I thought that party was a really nice way to handle the situation- caring and respectful. She still thinks that she works there. When I talked with her on the phone the other day, I reminded her that she was moving to Texas. She said, "Well honey, I can't just move, I have a job". I didn't miss a beat, and said, "Oh Mom, I've already thought about that, and we found a new job for you in Lufkin". She said, "Reeeally?" I then told her all about Pinecrest again, the Methodist Retirement Community, where she will be living and doing what she has been doing at the Aurora Nursing Center. She told me that she was a little overwhelmed. I can't wait to see her next weekend for Mother's Day weekend- Susan and Paul will be there, Becky and probably Meghan. We heard that there will be a special BINGO game on Saturday.
Probably Meghan? I would not miss this for the World...See you in 6 days Fancy!
